Coming up at Island Music Center:

Friday, May 11th - 7:00pm
Session Americana is an acoustic music collective from Boston.
The 2012 West coast tour will feature core members, Ry Cavanaugh, Dinty Child, Billy Beard and Jim Fitting. Joining them are special guest members, Laura Cortese (Fiddle) and Miracle Parade (Christopher Pappas, Bass). Loved by fans, lauded by critics and envied by their peers, Session Americana sit tightly around a small round cafe table, ambient mics tuned to catch the complete sound of the voices and instruments. Players swap songs and instruments; a suitcase drum kit, an old electric bass, a field organ and a collection of acoustic instruments. The unique format feels fantastically theatrical and although the musicians face each other, the audience feels drawn into the circle by the warmth, joy and camaraderie that emanate outwards by the all-star cast of characters seated around the table. What keeps fans coming back show after show is the same thing that any audience member longs for; great songs performed by a great band.

Saturday, May 12th 7:00pm - Hanz Araki & Kathryn Claire return to Island Music Center!

Billed as “The next generation of trad’ music,” Irish flute player and singer Hanz Araki is the quintessential world music musician. He has toured internationally with Juno award-winning The Paperboys and The Casey Neill Trio; also The Bridies, Portland’s all-star Pogues cover band KMRIA among others, and is featured on over a dozen recordings and soundtracks, along with his own acclaimed CD’s. www.hanzaraki.com.

Kathryn Claire has asserted herself in a new generation of traditionally-inspired musicians. Her violin-playing exhibits a technical grace which is matched only by her truly captivating voice and she possesses the rare ability to move seamlessly across genres. Her deep love and respect for traditional music has long been a driving influence and those roots can be heard in her own original music.

Friday, May 18th 7:30 pm - Their name, Montana Skies, is a metaphor for musical freedom, and they continue to follow their creative instincts far beyond traditional boundaries. These award winning musicians delve into music from Pink Floyd and Rush to Vivaldi, House of the Rising Sun and Bach, as well as their own originals that have been featured everywhere from NPR to the Travel Channel. Combining elements of classical technique, jazz improv and the power and energy of rock n' roll; Jonathan's guitar wizardry and Jenn's blazing electric cello combine to create a sound that is truly remarkable. Admission: $10 general, $ 5 student, online at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/247109 or at the door.
