Hi! I’m Julia, and I love helping students of all levels discover the joy, challenge, and beauty of playing the horn. Whether you are just picking up the instrument for the first time or preparing for advanced college auditions, my goal is to create a supportive, inspiring, and fun environment where you can thrive.

During lessons we will focus on good, relaxed technique including posture, hand position, and breathwork. I believe learning to play music should be fun but it also requires hard work and I try to strike a balance between the two.

I’ve been where you are—I started my own musical journey on the piano at age five and fell in love with the horn at age ten. That passion led me to the Interlochen Arts Academy for my final year of high school, followed by a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Master’s degree from Northwestern University. I also spent three incredible years as a fellow with the New World Symphony in Miami Beach.

As a professional horn player, my career has taken me all over the globe, and I am proud to have performed in legendary concert halls including Carnegie Hall, the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, and the Berlin Philharmonie. I spent five seasons with the Saint Louis Symphony and have held positions with the Houston Grand Opera, Virginia Symphony, and New Mexico Symphony. As an active freelance musician, I’ve had the privilege of performing with world-class ensembles like the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Dallas Symphony, and Kansas City Symphony. During the summers, I have played in beautiful places like the Santa Fe Opera, as well as several Colorado festival orchestras.

After moving from New Mexico, my family and I now call beautiful Bainbridge Island home. We are loving the local charm and exploring all of the island’s hiking trails. I have also especially enjoyed the relaxing ferry commute to Seattle when I played the recent run of Jesus Christ Superstar at The 5th Avenue Theatre.

I bring all of these global performance experiences back to my teaching studio to give you a first-rate, practical, and well-rounded musical education. I can’t wait to work with you and help you reach your goals!
